Griot Anthology - Preorder
A downloadable game
The stories we share and the platforms we provide others for telling stories are more important than ever.
Thoughtcrime Games believes that Imagination is For Everyone, and in keeping with that spirit, we are releasing the first Griot Anthology, a zine celebrating the brilliant work of black TTRPG game designers. Utilizing the powerful medium of roleplay, this anthology holds space for intersectional blackness in the past, present and future, giving us the opportunities to tell our own unique stories and share our unique perspectives.
Our talented crew of designers include:
- Basil Wright
- BrieAnna Allen
- Bluu Smith
- Laura Simpson
- Navaar Jackson
- Quinn Murphy
- Shan Wolf
- Tyrone Webster Reid
The anthology is edited by Misha Bushyager and Quinn Murphy.
Games
Here are the games you can expect to find in the Griot Anthology:
Black Future: Emancipation of Stars (Quinn Murphy)
When Earth began to burn, black people and anyone with a desire for freedom left for the stars. Players are Navigators, piloting soulships to either find new homes or to travel forever through the universe.
Come Out From Your Grave (Basil Wright)
You have gathered to revive someone recently deceased. Played using dominoes, you build the story of the ritual and the results of the revival. Will the ritual be successful? What will you sacrifice? Lay the bones and find out.
Intergalactic Teaz (Bluu Smith and BrieAnna Allen)
Welcome to Intergalactic Teaz - are you ready to bring the house down? Are you capable of serving an insane amount of cunt? Explore the delicate balance of sharing your culture without compromising your community all while challenging HausX of the Planet [X]. Let’s see if you get 10s across the board!
Midnight Train Ticket (Laura Simpson)
In the 1960s a group of people has come to the train station. They are preparing to leave town, maybe forever. Players collaboratively tell the story of these characters' last 48 hours and how they all came to this moment.
Mines (Tyrone Reid)
You’ve established a rhythm of playful antagonism with your local “subjects”. But pale visitors with strange weapons have invaded the Island and your comfort faces disruption. Embody a traditional supernatural entity from the Afro-Caribbean diaspora, determine your relationship with your people, then Go. To. War.
Because “This land and these people IS MINES!
Neighborhood Robots (Navaar Jackson)
When the government fails you, you have to build your own solutions. In this solo journalling game, you tell the story of a community that puts together their own mechs to help defend them from a variety of threats.
Reich Breakers (Shan Wolf)
In a desperate bid to stop the Third Reich during the 1940s, the US government needed to create their own super-soldiers to combat those the Nazis were using. They exposed black soldiers to Vita-rays, granting some of them super powers. Use these powers to fight against the Reich and fight for your rights!
